Fish and chips🍟 – puzzle piece

Last week in reading we learnt about Fish and Chips!

For this activity, we all got an odd shaped paper puzzle piece and a small piece of information about the topic.

We had to first read the information, then answer the questions on the puzzle piece. Then we had to colour them in. When we’ve done enough puzzle pieces about different topics, we can put them together in a surprise shape! I have no clue what the shape will be. 🙂

I enjoyed doing this task because it was really interesting! Did you know that Fish and chips were invented in either Invercargill or Greymouth?

Bye!😁

(sorry, it’s quite fuzzy)

Number of the week

In maths we’ve done number of the week!

Number of the week is a google slide made by my teacher for the class to complete. The first slide says the number. This week’s number was 254. The rest of the slides have questions or things to do with the number. Some examples are: Write the number in expanded form, or make the number out of shapes and pictures. (The number changes every week.)

I found number of the day  a fun activity to do, although some slides were a bit hard. My favourite one was when I had to make the number with shapes.

I can’t wait to do it again!😁

Here is an un-answered copy of the slide for if you want to have a go, too.(:

Mirror animal art🐈‍⬛

This week we made mirror art!

Mirror art is a type of drawing where you have half of a semetrical printed picture, (usually a person or animal,) and you have to draw the other side.

We got to choose between a variety of different animals. I wanted to do my cat, Oreo, but it’s nearly impossable to get a semetrical photo of him!

I decided to just do a cat instead. we all got to choose a black and white photo of an animal. Then we needed to cut it in half and stick one side on  A 3 paper. After that, we had to draw the other side.

It was hard, but really fun! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Here is a picture of my finished art!

What do you think? what animal would you have chosen?

🥭Spooky stories…

We were writing spooky stories for Halloween!

In writing a few weeks ago, we had to write spooky stories for Halloween.

I decided that I wanted to write a story  from someone else’s perspective. I pretended that the story was like a dairy entry by a made up girl called Beth.

The idea of the story is that Beth and her friend, Lizzie, are going trick or treating, when they see something in the dark. Lizzie doesn’t know that Beth is afraid of seeing things and not knowing what they are.

Here is what I’ve written so far. When I’ve finished the story, I’ll Put the whole thing on another blog post.

I hope you like it. 🙂

Learning about New Zealand disasters

In reading this term, we get to choose to either study different countries or learn about NZ disasters.

Me and my friend, Katie, decided to do the disasters.

After Katie and I did alllthe activities for our disasters, (I did the Tangiwai Rail disaster and Katie did the Pike River Mine,) we both had to do a create task.

My create task was to create a website page based on the Tangiwai Rail disaster. I’m nearly done making it.

Katie’s task was to record a fake radio interview about the Pike River Mine disaster.

She asked me to pretend to interview her!

I said yes, of course. Our teacher said that I needed to make up a fake name. I decided my name would be Kathryn Oreo.*

Katie wrote a script of what she wanted me to say. Then we recorded! What do you think?

If you were doing the activities, would you make a website or radio interview?                              Bye! 🙂

*Oreo is my cat🐈‍⬛

The great overseas adventure!

This term in reading we are learning about lots of different countries!

We all choose different countries, then we read articles and do activities about that country.

It’s called The Great Overseas Adventure!

Earlier in the week before we started learning about the countries, we all got to design our own private plane. We had to include a bed, a kitchen, a toilet and seating.

I decided that instead of making my private plane for me, I would make it for my goldfish, Snowflake and Bob.

These are Snowflake and Bob: Bob is the one on the left. Snowflake on the right.

Here is my plane:

(Sorry it’s a bit fuzzy)

I enjoyed creating my private plane because I got to be creative and make it weird (:

If you made one, what would your plane look like?

Easttle writing

Every year in term one and four we have a writing test called Easttle.

When we do the Easttle test we all get a topic to write about. At the beginning of the topic is persuasive writing : Sports or Music?

At the start of the year I chose music because it helps you relax, you can play it on headphones and if we didn’t have music, we couldn’t sing or write songs.

Earlier in the week we had to go back and look at our term one Easttle writing, make a copy of it and make it better. I had to change mine a lot! I added paragraphs, explained my ideas better and made it make more sense.

Later this term I’m going to do the test again. I hope I can make it better!

If you were doing the Easttle test what would you choose?

Music or Sport?

My School Holidays

In the Holidays my family went to Westport for the weekend!

In the middle weekend of the holidays, my family went to Westport for two nights!

We stayed in a little holiday house called Rock Fish Cottage. We only stayed for two nights but we had a lot of fun 🙂

When we arrived it was late and we went straight to bed. On the first day we visited the seal colony, like on school camp! It was very windy so we didn’t stay long.

After that we went to a playground right around the corner from our holiday house.

That night we went to Carter’s Beach and got ice cream.

The next morning we had a lot to do. We had to clean the house, pack up, turn off the power and make sure we had everything in the car.

Finally, it was time to  go to the pool!

When we got there I went straight to a red pool noodle in the little pool. After a while I decided to jump back and forth from the cold pool to the warm pool to see if they would feel the same tempreture. ( They didn’t🙁.)

After the pool we went to a cafe and got hot chips. Then we began driving home. Our holiday was over.

What’s your favourite thing about Westport?

This is Rockfish cottage.

Ratios!

In maths we have been learning about ratios.

Ratios are really fun! you get to use shapes or pictures a little bit like algebra.

A ratio question could look like this :

  ⛛⛛⛛ ⭘⭘

Then you would need to answer by saying what the ratio is. The answer to this one would be 3:2 or 3 to 2.

You can also use different images like this

🌷🌷  🌿🌿🌿🌿 What is the ratio of tulips to leaves ?  The answer is 2 to 5. Or 🙂🍩🍩🍩 What is the ratio of doughnuts to smiley faces ?  The answer would be 3 to 1.

On Friday after learning about ratios all week, we got to make fruit kebabs!

We had to decide what we wanted to put on them. Then we said what the ratio was.

We could chose between grapes, marshmallows, tinned pineapple and banana.

I chose grapes and pineapple.

My ratio is 3 to 2.
