My School Holidays

In the Holidays my family went to Westport for the weekend!

In the middle weekend of the holidays, my family went to Westport for two nights!

We stayed in a little holiday house called Rock Fish Cottage. We only stayed for two nights but we had a lot of fun 🙂

When we arrived it was late and we went straight to bed. On the first day we visited the seal colony, like on school camp! It was very windy so we didn’t stay long.

After that we went to a playground right around the corner from our holiday house.

That night we went to Carter’s Beach and got ice cream.

The next morning we had a lot to do. We had to clean the house, pack up, turn off the power and make sure we had everything in the car.

Finally, it was time to  go to the pool!

When we got there I went straight to a red pool noodle in the little pool. After a while I decided to jump back and forth from the cold pool to the warm pool to see if they would feel the same tempreture. ( They didn’t🙁.)

After the pool we went to a cafe and got hot chips. Then we began driving home. Our holiday was over.

What’s your favourite thing about Westport?

This is Rockfish cottage.

Ratios!

In maths we have been learning about ratios.

Ratios are really fun! you get to use shapes or pictures a little bit like algebra.

A ratio question could look like this :

  ⛛⛛⛛ ⭘⭘

Then you would need to answer by saying what the ratio is. The answer to this one would be 3:2 or 3 to 2.

You can also use different images like this

🌷🌷  🌿🌿🌿🌿 What is the ratio of tulips to leaves ?  The answer is 2 to 5. Or 🙂🍩🍩🍩 What is the ratio of doughnuts to smiley faces ?  The answer would be 3 to 1.

On Friday after learning about ratios all week, we got to make fruit kebabs!

We had to decide what we wanted to put on them. Then we said what the ratio was.

We could chose between grapes, marshmallows, tinned pineapple and banana.

I chose grapes and pineapple.

My ratio is 3 to 2.

Fun Day Friday (part 2) !

This week we did Fun Day Friday again!

This week the knitting group was a lot bigger than usual. We had nine people!

Last time we only had three of  us.

Because some of us could already knit and some couldn’t, we went into pairs and taught our buddies how to knit.

Here is a picture of me and my buddy.

At lunch after Fun Day Friday, my friends and I sat on the seats outside our classroom and worked on our knitting.

One of my friends even said she could show me how to finger knit! I thought it would be really complicated but turns out it’s actually really easy. You don’t even need knitting needles! My finger knitting is super long.

Have you ever knitted anything?

Or would you ever want to learn?

Ancient Egypt Escape Room.

We have been learning about Ancient Egypt.

This week in reading, instead of doing our normal rotations, we have been doing activities around Ancient Egypt.

We pretend that we’re stuck in ancient Egypt and we need to get back to the present date.

Every day we have a new task to complete. There are eight tasks to complete. For every task we complete, we get a gold coin (a paper one, not real money). We need eight coins to get back to the present.

The activities are really fun! I’m on task five.

Today I did task four. It was about Sphinx.

A Sphinx is a statue that has the body of a lion and the head of a pharoh

This is a Sphinx:

Learning about ancient Egypt is really fun and interesting!

Would you want to learn about it too?

Persuasive Writing!

This term we have been doing persuasive writing.

Every week we do a new piece of writing.

This week we are writing about if we think our school should have a uniform.

I’m writing that I think we should have a uniform because we look smart and no one can be picked on for having different clothes.

Last week we wrote about whether we should have fitness every day. (I wrote no. I hate tagging games).

What do you think?

Would you write that you think yes or no?

Week 7 Fun Day Friday !

This term my class has been doing Fun Day Friday activities!

For Friday Fun Days we split our class into five groups. Every group does a different activity. There’s a group that does gardening, one that does cooking, woodwork, science/languages and my group : Knitting. We do Friday Fun Days every other Friday for an hour. I love being in the knitting group! Last time, we learnt to cast on and do a simple knit stitch. This week we started learning how to pearl. It’s a bit confusing, but not too hard once you get used to it. I love knitting.

What group would you want to be in for a Friday Fun Day?

Algebra

This week in maths I have been learning about algebra.

Algebra is really fun!

It’s where you have a question that looks like this: 4+f = 9. Then, you have to work out what the letter/picture equals.

Here is what a question and the answer would look like:

 Q; j – 5 =11

A: j = 6

I think algebra is fun because you can also use pictures or emojis  instead of letters.

A question could look like this:

8 + 😁 =13

😁 = 5

Try answering these ones.

7 – 😴 = 1         🤪 + 9 = 15       3 + 😍 = 6

                                                                             😴 =                     🤪 =                   😍 =

I’m learning the ukulele!

This term my class is learning how to play the ukulele!

So far, we know five chords: C, F, Am, G and C7.

To learn the chords we use different coluored smiley face stickers to remind us what chords are where. For example the C chord is the red sticker and the F chord is green and orange. The G chord is the pink, yellow and blue stickers. Am is the green sticker and C7 is the purple sticker.

At school we have lots of ukuleles that we all use, but I have my own one that I bring in from home. I’ve had it since I was little and I have absolutley no clue where I got it from! My ukulele is pink ( my favourite colour) and it has two cat stickers that I put on it.*

Next week we are going to do a

* I love cats.

Maths art!

In maths last week we learnt about making enlargements. I was very excited when I found out that we would be doing art for maths! We all got to choose a cartoon character to enlarge. I chose Pusheen the cat. My picture is enlarged by 6. When we were done we presented our work to the whole school in assembly.

Esther’s first blog post.

I love my cat. His name is Oreo.

This year for my speech in front of my class I did it about Oreo.

I got Oreo from my friend’s house when he was a kitten. He is about eight months old. Oreo is a tabby cat. I have had him for about six months. Oreo can be really funny. Every morning when I let him inside, he runs to the bathroom and gets in the bath! Then, he meows at me really loudly until I turn on the bath tap. When the tap is turned on, he just starts drinking all the water! I have another cat, too. Her name is Poppy. Poppy is eight years old. My family has had her since I was one. She doesn’t like Oreo because we got her first. This is Poppy below:

I love my cats!

Thanks for reading my first ever blog! (:
